I have a couple finches in a cage which hangs in my all-glass sunroom. The birds are male and female mates so we named them George and Gracie after the famous vaudeville comedy team. One FRIGID night, I had forgotten to turn the heater on in the room and went to bed. Poor George and Gracie must have gotten chilled in the night as the temperature dropped to almost freezing outside. Upon checking their cage in the morning, it was immediately apparent that George had plucked a lot of the PLUMAGE off of Gracie as she sat defenseless on her PERCH during the night. George had used the feathers to line his nest that he quickly made so that he had a warm and cozy place to sleep the rest of the night in. Gracie had remained on her perch. What a male chauvinist…bird!
