Hi,
Every speech delivered will have
01.Introduction
02.Message
03.Conclusion
If you happen to prepare for a discourse, prepare rather than being spontaneous. You can even have your pranks, jokes and a humorous speech prepared.
The age group 16-18 are normally visual oriented so do have both statistical and humourous depictions which will make them understand you better.
Don’t proclaim your statistical data which might be true but simplify and talk in terms of food, books etc for them get to the point you really mean.
The humour stays if it does have a good connection with the topic you deliver.
Use a common name when you crack a joke or try to learn one of the boys name to whom you are to deliver. Its involving them.
For a example if you are to deliver speech about Belief to a group in which Nathan( a name) is there
Once in the class a atheist professor came to the class and asked his pupil “Mr. Nathan do you see trees ?” “Yes Sir” Nathan replied ” do you see sky” Yes was the answer ” Do you see the birds?” Yes again. Then the Professor asked “Do you see God?” and laughed loud. And now it was Nathan’s turn, and he asked the Professor same questions and the last one was “My friends, do we see our professors brain?” and the whole class laughed at the Professor.
“Start to believe you are good and only then will you come to know how good you are.”
Jokes about Professor, books and about friends will get them involved.
Anyway, all the best for the speech.
Thanx.

Aanand Raghunathan.
