If you are looking for “thrilling” as in adventure stories why not read the Book of Judges or the Book of Acts?

Well, there was the bit with the talking donkey, that’s amusing. And Noah danced around naked and drunk in front of everyone…not thrilling, but you know…interesting. I can’t think of any thrilling parts.

You are a guy who places his lips around an exhaust pipe and then wonders why the car does not work for you.
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
You treat it like a cheap dime-store novel. When you read Harry Potter, are you afraid of the author at all? Of course not. When you read God’s Word, you had better be VERY afraid. The One who brought this work forth can crush your soul.
Having fear of the Lord is like having fear of chewing on glass shards. It is a healthy fear. The opposite of fear is not fearlessness. Fearlessness is a theory. The opposite of fear is stupidity. You read the Bible like an idiot, thus you gain nothing from it.
Try placing just a small amount of your massive fear in God and see if the knowledge does not start flowing.
Read Proverbs. Each chapter of Proverbs that you ingest matures you one year. Say a prayer and know that you are reading the first book off a printing press. God’s love letter to you.
Well there’s this one story in the New Testament whereby this cat named “God” decides he’s fed up with everyone sinning like crazy (even though it’s human nature for humans to act like humans) and so he decides he decides to behave like an Aztec worshipper and sacrifice his son and make him die a grueling death by others’ hands so humans can be let off the hook. Of course it doesn’t mean humans will stop sinning, you understand, but someone had to be sacrificed. In the Old Testament this allegedly loving God of the Bible offers an interesting dimension to his psychological profile when he exclaims that he is a jealous God and insists he is the only one people should pay attention to (worship). He even tests this dude named Job under the influence of his pathological jealousy. Job is a terrific guy but God wants to inflict real pain on him just to make sure he’s only playing on God’s team. So he allows his arch-nemesis (this cat names Satan) to wipe out the guy’s land and family and makes him piss poor. I’m pretty sure Satan enjoyed his assignment. Later, Job decides he’s beholden to the God of the Bible after all that damage is inflicted on him. Job had psychological issues … seemed to enjoy pain.
i would argue the first books are the most provoking. you’ll get bored easy if you don’t know anything about the jewish culture and practice. consider who God was talking to in the tabernacle and why. i personally took a lot from the exodus and the judges. that is israel’s history and the Bible tells us these things happened to them as examples for us.
