Question: Do you get offended if/when your friends make jokes about your race, gender, religion, nationality…..?

(whether or not they are the same race, gender, religion, nationality…..)
Is there a difference (in your reaction) if they are the same or not?
Sorry…. I’m kind of thinking as I go….

If there is no difference in your reaction… Why?

If so…. Why?

Either way, if you’re offended (or not)…. Why?

I’m just curious as to your opinions. I’m not trying to provoke anything.

Once upon a time I would just laugh at a joke if it was funny regardless of what group it was about but in this current day of political correctness I feel I HAVE to be offended or I would not be correct.

race, yes. I’m asian. The dogeaters, fried rice loving, 24/7 studying joke/racism is getting too old

gender, yes. My brothers would always tell me that girls are the ones who are supposed to do all the chores since we’re girls. I hate it.

People generally get offended when someone OUTSIDE of their race, gender, or religion make jokes about them. You’re allowed to poke fun at your own family…

Quite frankly, I get more offended when the person is the same race, making statements about race.

As for religion, I just try to explain things when they get it wrong.

What do you think? Answer below!

Nope – I’m not offended, because I turn them around and put them right back on the, and then we start a game of who can come up with the best (Or worst) joke about the other.

When we still lived in Iowa, we always joked about having become corn fed, inbred Ioweegans.

(If you want to see some unique specimens, I reccomend going to the Iowa state fair – you’ll see where that joke comes from)

  2. munkysmarts says:

Not really. We both understand, that these jokes in general, are for fun and not meant in a malicious way. Plus, I hardky run into this problem because most of my friends are the same race/gender. Most of us don’t do the religion thing either lol.

  3. nicdongui says:

tell them you don’t want to be there friend anymore if they talk like that. don’t say anything mean back because you would be sinking down to there level

  4. globar says:

I stop people re racist jokes..cos they keep the prejudice going.
Otherwise I don’t care, they are just the usual low esteem sad sacks of shit, trying to make them selves feel better at anothers expense.

  5. R.O. says:

    No !
My friends make jokes about my nationality all the time ,I do the same about theirs .

Friends laugh with you not at you !

  6. DagoDynaDi says:

It’s not so much offended as I just maybe get DE-Fensive if backed up against a wall on such matters as my faith, mainly. I am thinking specifically about my current mate, and upon meeting his family for the first time, I was prepped ahead of time not to discuss politics, or religion, fair enough, but boy, was I ever supposed to bite MY toungue and stifle any rude comments aimed at my faith, and swallow the shovel fed beliefs of what they are all about! Same at work, the boss says, never discuss religion or politics w/ the clients. Well, I know marketing, and all the customer is always right, but, and this is sincere, talk about spiritual attack! It’s as if there is a bullseye on me, open season, and all it does is re-affirm my faith, cuz I know of no other on earth that stands up to such ridicule and persecution., my maker tells me I’m in good company if the world hates on me, though!

  7. Tasha W says:

I am offended, regardless of what race, religion, gender, and nationality it is about, it really doesn’t matter if it directly offends me or not. Because I find all racism in every shape or form despicable, even if it is a joke. It makes me angry that someone can sit their and laugh at the expence of others!

  8. Southparker77 (for Da Ben Dan) says:

No i’m not offended by the things my friends say about my race/relgion. i know its just joking around and i do the same with them. I think they would have crossed the line though if they called me a k*ke.

  9. Marilyn T says:

My friends would never do anythin g like that.I have friends from every sort of background and we never make fun of each other.

  10. Fatima K says:

No, ’cause they’re my friends and I know their intentions, they’re not saying it to hurt me or be mean. Plus I say stuff, right back to them all the time, it’s what we do, and if it ever bothered them i would stop immediately and apologize.

  11. 2fine4u says:

Most of my friends show me the utmost respect. But when they get a little rowdy and sometimes it can hurt my feelings. One likes to make fun of the fact that I am light skinned with hazel eyes. She’ll say stuff like I am mixed or d**n near white. It hurts my feelings sometime.

  12. straightalks says:

    No, because they’re jokes.

  13. MEKAJ S says:

Sometimes it really depends on whats being said …As a black woman I hate the word ni**er no matter who uses it… its a disgusting word to me ….relegion tread softly because you may not offend me but you may offend someone else otherwise were ok

  14. kzr says:

    No.

In India sardars (sikhs) are known for craking jokes about themselves, amongst themselves. It is very common for a Sikh friend of yours to come up & crack a joke on sardars.

You need to have the ability to know when someone is being funny & when is he/she crossing the line or offending you. But you dont have sense of humor if you cant laugh at yourself.

    Enjoy!

  15. oliver h says:

  16. heywood J says:

No…you can’t get too caught up over those things!

  17. lady_lovinlife says:

GROW UP….We have all been teased from childhood on. I am so sick to death of political correctness. ” Oh you can’t say that you might offend someone” I say BS! What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I am white. However I have a natural afro. I was called everything from Niger to Birillo pad. Learn to accept your self for who you are and be proud of it!

  18. happilyengaged says:

I honestly get offended by people making rude comments about my hubby being part Polish.

  19. javadic says:

I don’t get offended by jokes unless they are in really bad taste. I do get offended by serious, malicious libel and slander.
