Question: How does Canada’s Military Compare on the Global scale?

WHO MAKES SUCH JOKES?

They are not big, but they are good soldiers and great allies.

In a fight, I would take one Canadian soldier over 100 Russians any day

Honestly?

On a scale of 1 – 10, based on size and fear factor……3.

You need the fear factor. The Romans lived off of this. The U.S. has that same factor working for them.

They are pretty bad. Since Canada is not a major player in world events they don’t really need a strong military force and at the moment their military is adequate for self defense purposes. But since they are neighbors with the US they are often compared and made the butt of jokes since the US military is one of the strongest in the world.

It is certainly not bad, you guys have up to date technology and share the military advantage of the West, but, the CF is very small. I am pretty sure it only has two branches (correct me if I am wrong), and probably could not stand up against a larger force without help.

Canada’s military is actually reasonably respectable. Canadian soldiers are the best payed in the world – a Canadian Private earns more than an American junior officer.

However, Canada’s military budget is small by comparison – smaller than Australia’s, which has a smaller population and slightly lower living standards.

Yet in the long run, Canadian soldiers distinguish themselves wherever they go. In Afghanistan, they are a major player in terms of forces sent and combat seen. The stereotypes I’ve heard are stupid and completely uneducated.

The Canadian soldier can stand up with anybody.
    The Canadian military can’t.

Canada ranks about 60th in size, not the biggest by any means but not a force to be taken lightly either.
Canada provides the largest contingency to UN peacekeeping forces and has troops involved in every NATO mission from Bosnia to Afghanistan. Man for man it may be one of the most experienced militarys today, that’s an important factor.
They train with both the US and British militarys on a regular basis and are equipped with same weapons systems.
They are a first rate military force.

Canada’s military is not large, but what they lack in size they make up for in ability to fight! They are among the greatest fighters in the world, bar none!!! I’m an American but, they are as good in a fight as we are any day! They give it their all in every fight in which they have ever been involved! My Grandmother was French Canadian, best people to have on your side in any situation!

Canada does have a Strong Military but in a war it would rely heavily on the united states and other allies to keep there sovernighty and protection.

I heard they use their horses instead of tanks. This could be a disadvantage.

  6. Dennis H says:

The Canadian Forces are small but tough. The CF does not use horses(what happened to no stereotypes) The CF is currently upgrading its tank force to the Leopard 2A5 and 2A6M The Leopard 2A6m is at least as well protected as the
Abrams uses less fuel and has a longer gun.
Considering the size of population we put on a damn good job in the Peace Keeping role.
