Watch NBC nightly news with Brian Williams because every night he does a segment on something good happening around the country. Last week he did a segment on a diner in Denver that basically gives you a meal for free if you cannot afford to pay on the honor system. Last night, he reported that the diner had received thousands of dollars in donations from people all around the country that sent in every denomination of cash to help them continue to pay for the free meals they were making. Now that is the American spirit at work!

given that this is not a recession as much as a class war it can be seen as good news that washington is going to rake the AIG people over the coals because they received unearned bonuses of over million each, but there is a better one:

bernie madoff (you know, the “my ponzi is bigger than yours” crook) is going to jail, his wife and sons, who could not have been ignorant of what he was doing, are going to lose the assets that were acquired with the proceeds of crime, and:

the IRS is going to allow people who lost money to him and others like him write off up to 95% of their losses against their income, because they will treat it not as capital losses but as theft losses. that is especially sweet to the ancient zsazsa gabor, who lost her life savings of million, and other people who in many cases are close to bankruptcy as a result.

sounds like good news to me.
