Q&A: Is it ok for best friends of opposite gender to kiss?

I am a 13 year old girl with a best friend that’s a 13 year old guy. We go to the movies A LOT and we joke about them being dates. We’re extremely close and we don’t exactly like each other THAT way but we have a really tight friendship. Is it wrong for us to kiss?

Kissing could complicate your friendship. Its probably not worth your trouble. If you think about it a lot then you may like him more than you thought.

If you mean just a quick peck as greeting, then there is definitely nothing wrong with it. I am a 19 year old girl with two best friends who are male, but I don’t kiss them in greeting simply because I have a boyfriend and one of them has a girlfriend and we don’t want to cross boundaries. But if neither of you has anyone you are going to offend in doing so, I don’t believe that there is a problem.

If you mean romantic kissing though, that would change your friendship. Although there is nothing wrong with kissing a friend like that, it could complicate things, that’s for sure.

Either way, it’s up to you to make the judgment call. You know your relationship with this friend better than anyone, so you should decide what is within your boundaries or going too far. Good luck.
