Combatives are not a joke – the Army has gotten much tougher on hand to hand type training.

No; get into a fight with someone properly trained in it and find out for yourself.

For me it was pretty basic. I was in the infantry and the basic training stuff was childish and not very good. I will mention though this was in 98 and at the time i was a Black belt in both shotokan karate and Jujitsu so for me it was a joke. Later on i learn some things from a platoon leader that was a national champ in wrestling and some dirty fighting from the rangers but the bare bones was a joke.

I would recommend once you get to your duty station after basic to try and find a martial arts school and train up there if you think you need more training. Find a MMA school if you can that way you can get a good mix of the different styles. Akido or jujitsu schools are the kind i would lean toward or a krav maga school which is great for the military probably one of the best but hard to find.

no it is not. you might think your hot shit bc your a mma fighter [or you may just think you are.] but the army, should a soldier have to get in a hand to hand fight with the enemey, doesnt want them wresting around for ten years.
btw, learn how to write you idiot.

    pretty much.

Combatatives are more for building aggression and a warrior spirit than actually teaching usable hand to hand.

The techniques taught are valid techniques, if practiced enough.

But that’s the issue, the military just doesn’t practice them enough.

Then again, who is ever gonna need to fight hand to hand ?

Time spent training in combatatives, can better be used for training in war essential skills.
