Q&A: How Can I Deal With A Guy Who Always Jokes?

He works with me at a computer store. It seems that every question I ask him gets a sarcastic/joking response. I can never tell if he’s serious or not. Problem is, I take most orders from this guy. This giant personality trait gets on my nerves so much.

How can I tell if he’s being sincere?

I have this problem ALL THE TIME! There is nothing more frustrating than someone who jokes all the time in a non-humorous tone. This has resulted in so many embarrassing situations for me. One thing that works for me when dealing with this kind of person is to just always assume that what he says is a joke. If it’s something important, ask him, “Are you kidding? Because I can never tell when you’re kidding.” At that point he will probably admit to kidding if he is. Most people like this think it is obvious that they are kidding even when it’s not.

you know the golden rule? apply it to him. do unto others what you don’t like others do unto you. make also a joke on him in a nice way with a plastic smile. in that way he will realize not all the time he is in a right way to make jokes, and also he will realize that you can also handle things. bring back the jokes on him, please don’t be affected, find a way, ahm a good way that you can also insult him in your own nice way. good luck.

First don’t laugh at any of his joking around as he loves an audience. Tell him work is no place for his comedy act. He will start to take life serious just wait and see. It’s his way of getting attention.

just tell him that you can’t tell sarcasm and he should stop joking around so much say sir I take my job very seriously and would appreciate the same from my boss.
