Q&A: What should I do if some scary chain letters has the words: This is not a joke?

Like this one time, I received some annoying chain letter about something scary or some ghosts under the bed will kill me if I don’t pass it on to others and the following that some scary chain letters has the “this is not a joke” line. What should I do with it even if some scary chain letters proved that this is not a joke or it’s a true story?

There’s no such thing as a true chain letter. Believe me, I’ve been getting them since I started hanging around the Internet (circa 1996).

You should burn the letters and delete the emails. Just because it says it’s true doesn’t mean it is. An alligator will not crawl out of your toilet, there aren’t masked murderers waiting outside your door, and you will not drop dead at midnight after reading the letter.
This one time, I received an annoying chain letter about all of the above and I didn’t pass it on. I laughed and deleted it. I lived. GASP

Delete it. It’s that simple. Chain letters are all crap anyway.
