Also a lot of play time will keep your ferret happy. A lot of free roaming around your house will excite your fuzzie. Taking it on walks on a leash is also a very good thing for them. My ferret loved walks, and loved the chew toys. He was an only ferret and he was at his happiest.

Give them a good variety or food, including some occasional canned cat food. Also some meats, and a little bit of fruits and veggies.

Some basic necessities include a large cage, toys, hammocks, bedding, litter boxes, litter, food, water bottle, food dish, nail clippers, ear cleaner, and FerreTone (or you can use olive or fish oil).

The ferret you’re getting should already have most of it’s basic necessities. Make sure you’re using a pelleted litter or newspaper. Clumping cat litter is too dusty for ferrets. For bedding, ferrets enjoy cloth (you can even use something like an old t-shirt) rather than wood shavings. Personally, I love the bedding on this site:

Depending on what the previous owner was feeding, you may want to switch his food. Ferrets are obligate carnivores which means they thrive on meat. You should never feed a ferret corn, fruit, vegetables, grain, or sugar. Many commercial foods and treats are made with grains and other unsuitable ingredients. You may also want to consider a whole prey or raw diet as they are more healthy and balanced than kibble.
