Q&A: What military contractor delivers the smallest bang for the biggest buck?

I worked for a major defense contractor and was constantly shocked at the waste and abuse. It made food stamp fraud look like a joke. Yet, most conservatives refuse to cut the Pentagon budget thinking it would make us less secure. The Chinese spend less than 1/10th of their GDP in defense and we are scared of them.

We’re not afraid of china. Our economys depend on eachother way too much for us to be afraid of them and them of us. I do agree that our government wastes alot of money on civillian contractors but it does create more jobs for the public. Its give and take. Bad for the government, good for the people.

I agree. The waste and abuse in all gov’t contractors, not just the military ones is crazy. That being said the waste and abuse in the gov’t is insane. How many times have you heard about someone spending all their money left in their budget on frivolous items before the end of the fiscal year, so that the excess doesnt reduce next years budget.

If you don;t like it contact your Congressman and ask that the military be expanded with personnel to eliminate those contractor positions. Of course that would come with added expense for pay, medical, pensions, education etc….an all volunteer military is expensive.

Or you could advocate for a return to conscription,,,and fill those positions with low paid conscripts…like yourself! Sounds great.

KBR, when I was in Iraq they maintained everything from our CHUs to the Laterine and pretty sure the chow it was not good at all. On the other hand intelligence contractors are worth every dollar, simply because most intelligence soldiers are clueless and they have to bring in experienced people to drive the mission
