Question: Why do people think Paranormal Activity is scary?

I saw that movie, I thought it was the biggest joke. I was half expecting at the end for them to say it was a joke and just tell everyone is was really scary. I mean really? The door slams and half the people in the theater gasp and scream…

And then I hear stuff like “Critics rate this the scariest movie in 10 years”.

Dude I got more scared watching Teletubbies then this crap…

Am I missing something, what really made you people so scared of this movie?

If u saw a paranormal activity in a movie. Its not scary because its just special effects. But if u saw it in real it is because in the real word if u saw a ghost it cant be a good ghost because hell is on earth and heaven is on like some other planet

Answer by philiporaski
the correct question to ask is who are the ‘critics’… are they independedent individuals?

Answer by Chantel
that movie pissed me off beyond reason. I stayed in the theater for like two hours – I should have left from the first five minutes. All the scary parts were in the trailer :/

I guess people with paranoia would find this scary. I mean, it would make them question what is going on at night/dark when they are sleeping/unconscious or whatever.

WAY over hyped and over rated in my opinion.

No idea, it must be for people who are scared of loud bangs and doors slamming shut, I didn’t think it was scary at all

But maybe people start relating to it or something

but yeah, wasn’t scary, so so so overrated

I don’t know really.Well I thought it was a real movie to be honest. It was really bad.I had images of demons in my head after a week i saw that. Now i can not be alone in the dark.I think it’s mainly because sometimes it is true. But thank goodness it isn’t a real movie.Just actors. But really,I find that more scary than blood and guts etc. man getting mauled by a bear.
Now I’m going to make a facebook account called ”Nikky’s Demon” haha Nikky is a girl who went bizerk after she saw the movie

This movie was not scary. In fact, I was so disappointed at the hype people created over it, cuz when I went to see it, I expected something that would freak me out. Instead, I was like, “really?”…

It’s scary because it manipulates us into being afraid of the dark. Surely that is the one thing that is our earliest fear: the fear of the unknown because we can’t see in the dark. PA does not ever show “the monster;” it just makes us wonder what is going to happen next. Admittedly its marketing campaign and the way the critics got on the band wagon for it helped a lot, but you’ll surely admit that there’s a little more to it than just a slammed door. The whole movie works on our imaginations, and doesn’t bother with showing a lot of blood. What’s really scary is what’s left to our minds to imagine and think about.

There is an old interview with Alfred Hitchcock in Richard Schickel’s The Men Who Made the Movies. He gives an example of two men talking at a table and a bomb goes off. It’s not so much scary as startling or shocking. But if the camera shows us the ticking bomb and cuts back and forth between it and the two men talking, building suspense, that is what is really scary.

I see PA the same way. It’s like a ticking time bomb. You know it’s going to go off at any minute and when it finally does then that’s the horror of it. But not just that final scene-the whole movie.

Yes you are missing something. You’re missing movie intelligence. You won’t get this until you’re a full-fledged adult. Your only 18. You’re still a kid who likes teenage slasher movies. Please don’t say you don’t because as you know that would be a lie. It will come to you when you are much older to understand and appreciate good movies. Trust me I was 18 once. I bet the other people who have answered this question are in the same boat as you…… With that said this move was a very scary movie and well-written. Actually it was funny at times as well. This movie was made on a $11.000.00 budget and made over $100,000. Steven Spielberg ( remember him ) liked this movie as well. He couldn’t finish it when he was watching it at night because it bothered him so much. He had to finish it the next day in the morning. Maybe someday you’ll grow up and appreciate good movies. Meanwhile maybe there’s another Friday the 13th coming up for you soon or some other crap teenage movie. Enjoy.

  6. Brianna says:

The movie was not scary at all.The scariest thing about it was that the demon kept a picture of her from when she was a little girl.

I wasnt scared of it at all, I guess it was how the people reacted to it, maybe it was the creepiness of it. xD

old school is a dumb ass and movie sucked hardcore.

holy god what a horrible movie , luckily i was able to fast forward through all the worthless dialogue that spewed from the actors , no kidding the demon wanted to kill them could you blame it. Putting up with those two all day probably made it feel like it was back in hell. I was so glad when he finally offed the two of them , wanted to give him a high five or bake him some kind of pastry , well deserved.
