Why do people think that Canada has a joke military?
Hi,I did the following:
Q&A: Why do people think that Canada has a joke military?
Honestly I don’t see why allot of Americans make fun of it, it is true that Canada has a small military and yes our Navy is a joke, but we have very well trained Infantry and we have JTF2 ( A tier-1 Special Operations-Anti-Terrorism force) Not to mention were getting 65 new F-35 JSF aircraft a Billion purchase.
The answer in the following:
Answer by Evil Goodness
Because it IS a joke military.
Your gov’t and many of your fellow citizens don’t care about your military.
Answer by toorie
I don’t know any American who thinks that, most Americans feel that Canadians are their brothers and sisters and admire Canadians in the military. Who are you listening to? young teenagers who know very little of which they speak?
Answer by Tony
because they mind their own fuck…ing buisness, who would ever want to fight the Canadians???/ No body that’s who. they are peaceful moose riding weed smoking white people that are confused about english or french…..THEY ARE COOL IN MY BOOK. that’s why they don’t have a cool military.

I don’t but you can see where people are coming from. Canada isn’t a threat to anyone and is more of a peace-loving country.
special operations tiers are by country…just having a “tier 1″ unit doesnt mean anything since its in comparison to YOUR other SOFs, not other countries’.
as for why they’re considered a joke, its because they deploy believing that they are a peace keeping force and arent responsible for launching offensive operations… this lets the enemy believe they can walk all over teh canadian forces and they do. this speaks for itself http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/10/26/f-afghan-deaths.html
death rates are pretty accurate at showing how well infantry is trained…
btw not to sound mean about it, but ive worked with a few canadians and they just dont have the mentality needed for fighting this type of warfare. im still grateful that they took a part in OIF and OEF, but i just wouldnt want to roll out on mission with them.
@OQ: if thats a “fact” then back it up. otherwise you’re blowing smoke. infact i call BS on your whole post, and you obviously know nothing about either military or combat in general. if those SOFs were training together and the canadians were supposed to ambush a large group of them that were moving together (i call BS on that part): then congratz, they accomplished what any basic infantry unit could. theres no ancient chinese sectret to survive getting ambushed in the right type of way. SOFs dont have magical powers, if you get ambushed you get ambushed, and chances are you’re fucked if the enemy has any clue what they’re doing.
@OQ: i last served 2 years ago…and the last time we worked with canadian’s wasnt all that long before that. the only thing that changed is that candian forces are no longer over there. as for asking anyone in nato: the US military makes up the majority if nato. like i said, if you believe that basic canadian infantry is on the same level as our SF: prove it, otherwise you’re FOS and obviously arent even a soldier as proved by your question 3 weeks ago. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjXXnvMK3noXspo_ebbExersy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100718193840AAOsUWY
so no offense, but who do you think knows better? someone who has actually been deployed and in the military, or some kid trying to enlist?
@OQ: ranger school has nothing to do with being SF. theres several regular infantry soldiers in the army that go to ranger school and pass. all that ranger school is is a leadership school that focuses on infantry tactics.
@OQ: ranger school has nothing to do with being SF. theres several regular infantry soldiers in the army that go to ranger school and pass. all that ranger school is is a leadership school that focuses on infantry tactics… it doesnt even get you into ranger regiment, let alone special forces. so using that as a “our infantry soldiers are as good as us army SF” holds no weight at all. as for having to make seperate awards for us vs forgein, please show me what exactly the award is for foreign military? lsat i checked the only honor grad awards were darby, puckett, and hall awards for distinguished honor grad, officer honor grad, and enlisted honor grad. and as for canada always taking it, maybe u should do a bit more research. http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/land-terre/news-nouvelles/story-reportage-eng.asp?id=29 check out the first paragraph, especially the “rarely” part.
@OQ: so what? if its jumped from “rarely” to “always” in just 7 years, provide proof. and again, what award is it exactly that they changed to for foreign students? you cant provide backup proof for anything you claim. and no the purpose of ranger school isnt to show who is capable of SOF. RASP for ranger regiment and selection for SF show who’s capable. if you want to see the purpose of ranger school, here you go: http://www.goarmy.com/life/ranger_school.jsp
you’re entire claim is a nice try, but an epic fail. but ill tell ya what, if you can prove that regular canadian infantry is capable of:
jumping in behind enemy lines
operating behind enemy lines without any support of their own
deploying anywhere in the world in 18 hours or less
raising their own army of resistance fighters behind enemy lines
go through a year or more of training before ariving at unit (since you did say their training was on par with special forces)
has a casualty rate as low as the us military SOFs
THEN you might have a leg to stand on. until then you’re only reasoning is that canadian infantry can go to ranger school (which isnt even a selection process), which holds absolutely no weight at all since regular army infantry attends that also.
edit: its hiliarious how OQ is trying to ask for proof for others claims when he has repeatedly been unable to provide any proof of his own. but to provide lords proof for him:
1. the casualty rate speaks for itself
2. the fact that it took them so long to gain control of Kandahar. this is an unconventional war, meaning the enemy is going to focus on whatever the weakest area is. in this case, its the canadians. you may try to argue with this, but you never served and obviously lack common sense. if you were an insurgent armed with only an ak47 or an rpg, who woul dyou try to attack? easy targets or hard targets?
3. lastly, the canadian military itself claimed that it needs to withdraw from afghan and will need atleast a year to recover. us units have been deployed more times than canadian units have, and we’re still able to go strong. your military is a joke
The only reason people think our military is a ‘joke’ is because they do not know SHIT. Our military is the BEST trained in the world (Fact not personal opinion). Also they think ‘Oh Canada is a joke they don’t have as many troops and are smaller than as us! yada-yada-yada”. Ever hear of quality over quantity? Our regular infantry is considered U.S SF’s level (Another fact and not personal opinion). United Nations even stated that our SF’s are better than U.S.A’s SF! British S.A.S being first then Canadian JTF-2 being second. We may not have as good of equipment as U.S or U.K but our training is ten fold over theirs. Soldier for soldier, a Canadian troop would dominate a U.S soldier.
One last fact about our SF’s..
March 1998, in Georgia, 16 JTF2 members did an ambush exercise against 60 Rangers/SEALS/Deltas. Before the americans can fire a single shot, 33 of their men are ‘dead’ and after 10 seconds of shooting, 10 of them are left in bad position before the referee ends the exercise. None of the 16 Canadians have been hit.
Hopefully this gives you a little insight
@ alexander m Ask anyone in NATO. Oh and by the way times have changed since you last served with all due respect. The only reason about the downfall with our death rate is because we are mainly working in Kanadahr (spelling?) and with the ISAF. We are easier targets imo.
@ alexander m The reason for that question is because I might be moving to the U.S. I have a choice for staying here in Canada or moving.
@ alexander m To prove my facts that our regular infantry is U.S SOF’s level, our infantry training is some what equal to Ranger School. Don’t Believe me? Canadian soldiers who go to Ranger School graduate with top honors. They had to make a seperate awards since Canada kept on being the best student there. They made Foreign Student award and U.S student award.
@ alexander m LOL that was dated 2003. Good try though. Ranger school is also meant to show soldiers who are capable of special operations.
@ Lord Since were all about ‘proving’ facts here, explain to me how you can prove that they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off, etc, etc?
Since I don’t know anyone who thinks that way I guess I couldn’t tell you.
People think you military is a joke because they believe in hugging and making friends. The only group in the Canadian military that has my respect is JTF2. OQ or w/e your name is… your regular infantry is equivalent to rangers? Are you serious? You idiots performed just amazing in Marjah. Oh wait… n/m. They were told to leave because they ran around like chickens with their heads cut off and were afraid to do anything. In fact, the specific reason they were told to piss of was because they refused to help a British unit that was pinned down less than a half mile away.
When ordered to do something, they didn’t. They just literally stood in one position then ran behind a building when ordered to do something completely different… save a few Brits.
