Why does everyone argue about which branch of the military is the best?

Question: Why does everyone argue about which branch of the military is the best?
The men and women that serve in any given branch may think theirs is the best, but they have respect for every branch. They don’t bad-mouth anyone else unless it’s joking or friendly competition. Yet time and time again I come on here and see people saying some branches are worthless. Funny thing is, most of the people talking shit have never been in the military and shouldn’t talk about subjects in which they’re clueless. Am I way off base for being irritated by people’s stupid behavior?
Ps-Yell at me all you want for this, but I’m just as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours.

Is a matter of pride; everyone says that the branch they serve in is the best, no matter what. It also happens inside the braqnches themselves, why do you think everyone hates MPs, but love the Airborne? Why you think the Infantry frown upon their supply clerks, who bust their buns to ensure that they are equipped and supplied?
Is an internal thing.

The truth is, the Navy is our best asset! They combine a sea and air power other services cant provide! And the air craft carrier is by far our best defense!

For some reason it seems like the Marines always think they are the elite. You are right that they all are working for the common cause of protection of their country.

It is just the rivalry that is in every part of life. From sports, jobs, and even military, it is just the rivalry.
HEHEHEHEH between the military its called friendly competition. From some wanna be scrotum head who has never been there i don’t wanna hear it. As for you young lady ask any question you want if they holler at ya laugh outwardly. Don’t give the S.O.B. the satisfaction of thinking they got to ya> LOL
U.S Army from Minuteman to Green Beret !!!!!! GO ARMY
For the most part it is really just friendly competition among people in the different services. They all have different jobs to do so there is not really a “best” service. There are some people in all the services who take it too far of course, but mos everybody has respect for the other services, but secretly think their service is the best because in the military you are taught first and foremost to take pride in your service.
My high school had the best football team, didn’t yours???
You are comparing apples and oranges while trying to figure out why people react the way they do.
Those in the military have been taught to respect authority and other branches because they know and understand, as grownups do, that working as a team is important. That doesn’t mean they aren’t competitive, just that they do things in an adult manner, something most of the world lacks today.
Those not in the military have been pampered and spoiled by parents who didn’t teach them to respect anyone (even themselves or they would take more pride in their words and actions) and because they’ve also never been taught self-control, they “run off the mouth” about things they know nothing about. Unfortunately Imodium doesn’t work on that problem.
The main thing is to consider the source and not let them irritate you. As I read things on this site, there are several that are rude and crude and don’t care (they need attention because they are insecure in themselves) and you have others who know-it-all and you have others who are here to discuss and learn.
I have learned a great deal in my years on earth but there is still so much I don’t know and hope to learn before God calls me home. I have learned to observe and watch people and can read alot of them quite well and that comes through observance as you pay close attention to what is really behind people’s rants and childish behavior.
Those that want attention, that are crude and rude, I choose to ignore ~ why add thoughts that are not welcome to their ears? They don’t want to hear the truth and can’t handle it anyway. They don’t want to learn, they just want to spout off and show their ignorance. And they do it quite well, don’t you think?
Like anything in life, choose your battles wisely. Don’t let others get under your skin and remember, you and only you control your reaction to what they say, not them. Once you learn to master that, you have the power, not them.
to Willy444 ~ the Marines might think that because they are (or were), stricter about who they took in. I worked in Records at a large PD and talked with recruiters from all the branches and their requirements for criminal activity varied quite a bit. The Marines wanted a clean record where the AF, Army and Navy weren’t quite as strict on some of the issues.
Sailor speaking. The branches make fun of each due to simple comradery. Just fun, because to us, our branch is the best, if it wasn’t, wouldn’ t we be in another branch.
And your right, it is one of the rudest things a person can do is make fun of a person in uniform if they’ve never been. I totally agree. So, no, you are not off base with your question. We need as much as we can get, being poked at, and for fun, doesn’t help.
We leave our families for months, years even, at a time, to protect our country and her allies. Its bad when people don’t appreciate their protectors.
Im a us army wife, and what i have learned is that the US military is like a Fraternity and all the branches are rivals, and there are rivalries from unit to unit as well. They talk a lot of crap but in all reality they have respect for eachother and what they do, sometimes they think some things are un fair with the differences from branch to branch and they jump on that for like a week and then it goes away. (for example the Army deployment extension caused some bitter feelings but that passed too) They are all in this together and they all depend on eachother to get the job done.
As for civilians talking crap, I have a rule of thumb, anyone to talks shit about the military who hasn’t been in it, married to it, or raised in it…. they have no place and ignore them cause they dont know what they are talking about anyway. ITs not worth the time to verbally attack or well, knock them out because you would just be proving their point.
I hope my answer didn’t offend anyone but it is my opinion that i have gained through my experiences as a military wife, so if i offended you I appologize.
I think FOR THE MOST part, it’s all in good fun. They all have their funny little names for each other and jokes on the other services….but, when it all comes down to it, they are ALL brothers-in-arms. They would have each others back in war time NO MATTER WHAT.
BAM~~LOVE your answer!!!!
It’s nothing more than Pride and it help build team work and self esteem. plus alot of trust.. its like owning a car, and you love that car, then some jar head asshole pulls up next to you with a bigger one.. the Idea is to take pride in what you have and fight for it.
