Why don’t Americans have an Easter Monday holiday?

Hi,I did the following:
Q&A: Why don’t Americans have an Easter Monday holiday?

I’ve been making jokes about Easter being a ‘four day guilt trip’ and wondering why people aren’t laughing at it, and now I know! Americans only have a ‘three day guilt trip!’ See, here in Australia, we have an Easter Monday public holiday and I thought Americans did too; why don’t they have Easter Monday off; isn’t that the day Jebus allegedly woke up after being kissed by a handsome prince, or something like that?

Jesus freed us from following the old laws to make up a bunch of new laws we should now follow at our convenience.

Which shows you don’t know about basic teachings of the Bible, but you are limited also in your view of other countries.

You said it yourself. “I’ve been making jokes”. Yet you didn’t even know what you were talking about.

It’s alright though, we still pray for your eyes to be opened.

Separation of Church and State laws don’t allow legal religious holidays. The exception is Christmas, which probably isn’t legal either, but no one seems to want to get rid of it.

Anyone can take religious holidays off, it’s just not allowed to be state mandated.

Actually, it used to be quite common – though I think Friday was more often granted than Monday. They pretty much eradicated Easter holiday from public institutions (such as schools) in the late 70s, I think. Amazing that they still allow Christmas holiday….

And, no, Sunday is the day that Jesus was raised from the dead (Sunday, not Monday, being the first day of the week).

So, in fact for Americans Easter is now only a one-day “trip” of whatever scathing variety you prefer to suggest.

You’re confusing reality with your Disney movies again. And you misspelled Jesus. (You know, spending all this time in R&S, one would think you’d have learned that name by now.)

Re. your question, some companies in the U.S. are closed on Monday to recognize Easter holiday.

I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say it has something to do with the differences in our heritages and separation of church and state. Australia’s religious culture is CofE-based, while American religious culture is more Puritan-based.

We have separation of church and state in the U.S.
